FAQ

How many tons of asphalt for a driveway?

Tons = square feet × thickness (inches) × density ÷ 12 ÷ 2,000. At 145 lb/ft³, a 1,000 sq ft drive at 2 inches is about 12.1 tons. Add extra for compaction.

What density should I use?

Hot-mix asphalt is about 145 pounds per cubic foot (roughly 2.025 tons per cubic yard). Use your plant’s spec if you have it.
